As little girls, we grew up with mental pictures of what we want our weddings to be like.
Several fairy tale movies and stories about “living happily ever after make us “mushy-mushy.” While it is beautiful to desire a “happily ever after” home after marriage; there are some important aspects we need to address as single ladies.

At EmpoweredEve, we have designed this interview series to get insights from godly married women as they share their experiences with us. They will be telling us what marriage has been like? What it has taught them about themselves and what godly single ladies need to know before taking that bold step to be married.

Tell us a little more about yourself? (What did you study? What you are passionate about and what you currently do as work? )

I am Omotomi Lola. As a graduate of English Language, I had a strong desire for writing. I gear towards penning my day today activities as it unravels itself.  I draw strength, realizing that someone out there finds my write up amusing, educative or whatever interpretation they choose to give it. I am spontaneous. This makes me to constantly check out other things I could do. Let me put it this way.. I am this  “Let me try this out” kind of person. Currently, I am the General Manager of a Travel Consulting Agency. We process students and visit vis-a-vis tourists, business and conferences visa documentation.

How long have you been married?

It’s been 11months and 3days so far.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day and why?

I can’t categorically say a part of my whole wedding process was my favorite. The whole wedding package was quite emotional for me. I could recall the time we were exchanging the ring. Oh my! I was tensed. You know..that feeling of Yes! This is real..

Guess what? My husband was just beaming with smiles… Lol. I could feel the joy he has.. Laslas, I have married this amazing woman. Yes! I am amazing oh. Chai. I am a FULL COURSE MEAL.

What things did you wish you were told about marriage as a single lady?

I’m not sure if I have answer to this question. I have always believed that our expectations in marriage differ. So I didn’t in any way listened to any “advice”. Nevertheless, I took to heart lessons from people.

What has surprised you the most about being married?

The Bond. The Cordiality. The unison. The tasks ahead. The setbacks. The accomplishment. The unending bills. The future that has begun.

What things do you think from your experience godly single ladies need to figure out before getting married and why are these areas important?

Well, I asked myself the following questions which shaped my decision. Is God with us in this path to marriage? Can I live with this guy for the rest of my life? Can I continually forgive him of all wrongs regardless of it’s gravity? Can I stand by him through the course of the journey?

What areas are you improving upon as a married woman and how do you think other women should support each other?

You know, I constantly tell myself this, ‘I was once a child and I am currently still a daughter and sister to some people before becoming a wife.’ In view of this, I would take baby steps in this journey to becoming a wife and mother. Till date, I am still a babe and a girlfriend to Mr A. The earlier we remind ourselves of this fact, the less worrisome we will be in conforming to the societal expectations of who a married woman should be. The truth is, as married women, we will constantly have to evolve, thereby grow in all affairs.
