Question 1
I am not as special as other girls
I am not even beautiful.
How can I have more confidence in myself?
Answer
As young girls, loving ourselves is not easy.
We struggle with how we look, what we say and how the world perceives us.
And all these affects our esteem.
What has worked for me is first accepting that God created me perfect in his image and that I am loved. Once we get this understanding of being loved by a great father, we begin to feel more secured in who he has designed us to be.
Trust me, it is not so easy but it starts with daily telling yourself what God has said concerning you
Say to yourself always:
I am BEAUTIFUL & SMART
I am ENOUGH, I MATTER and I am LOVED!
Question 2
I am not sure what I do with my time.
Some days I am very busy but at the end of the day, I can’t tell what I have been doing.
I procrastinate a lot but I will love to know how to use my time more efficiently because there is so much to do.
Answer:
The truth is TIME is life and what we spend our times doing reflects what we consider important. We are occupied by different things at different phases of our lives.
At one point in my life all I had to worry about was school and taking of my siblings, which was even a lot of work. But now, I am taking care of just myself, but there is still a lot I am working on. I am getting my Masters, I am a mentor to girls like you all, I am running an organization all while trying to be a sister, daughter, and friend.
In the midst of so much I have learned to do the following:
- Prioritize,
- Delegate
- Say NO
- Work hard / Follow through.
I will explain them with examples in my life.
- Prioritize: Take time to access your life and identify the top 3-4 things that you want to commit to based on the phase you are in.
For me, it is:
- GOD and what he has called me to do with the Bible study group
- My organization and the vision we are seeking to achieve with kids
- This platform and mentoring girls
- School and the masters program.
To Do: Find what your CORE areas of focus will be and write them and send to me.
- The next thing to do is delegate. If there are somethings you can ask other to help you with, do so, ask for help.
- Say NO. This has been the most difficult for me but practicing it has helped me a great deal. I love to help people and do things that interest me but most times, it becomes too much that I am overwhelmed. So based on my priorities, I have learned to say no politely. You can say No in a nice way or kindly explain to whosoever is requestiong your help or wanting you to do something that you will be willing to help them later but not at that moment.
Saying no can also be to TOO MANY NICE IDEAS.
I suffer from this and I find myself pushing too many exciting ideas at the same time only for me to get exhausted and frustrated along the way. What I have learned to do is have a “book of crazy ideas” This is where I jot my ideas to be executed at a later time
Be careful to distinguish between missing out on opportunities, not pushing yourself to achieve more and truly saying no because you are not free at the moment to execute with excellence.
The last part for time management is to WAKE UP & SHOW UP!
Do your part excellently. Work hard and make sure no time is left idle.
Know when to rest and when rest is becoming a form of procrastination.
You can also have me or anyone you respect hold you accountable.
