The Lie of Control
As I prayed for understanding of my anxious heart, I kept hearing this phrase over and over again in my mind:
Trying to figure it out.
Trying to figure it out.
Trying to figure it out.
All of a sudden it hit me. My idol was my obsession with “trying to figure it out.”
Figure out what? I wondered.
“Everything, Lindsay,” God said. “You are trying to figure out everything, including your idols.”
He was right. And like a good father, He and I had a good giggle. I mean that is kind of funny.
I realized I wanted control because I still feared I couldn’t really trust God with all my heart or my life.
Scriptures
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.Proverbs 3: 5-6 ESV
For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I am the one who helps you, declares the LORD; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.Isaiah 41:13-14 ESV
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.1 Peter 5: 6-7
