BOOK TITLE: THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A F*CK
AUTHOR: MARK MANSON
RELEASE DATE: 2016
BOOK OVERVIEW:
This is a quaint book, very distinct from every other self-development book I have read. Mark doesn’t encourage the ritual of affirmations neither that of a to-do list instead encourages us to focus on things that align with our personal values. He emphasizes that self-help books actually want you to focus on what we lack. Self-help books say, “focus on what you perceive your personal shortcomings and failures… to then emphasize it.” Mark is of the opinion that self-help materials actually ain’t helping. in his words, “Not giving a f*ck saves the world, psychopaths ruin it; learn the difference!”
There is a point that fascinated me; the point where Mark said all wars, racism, abuse, and evil stems from being right. which is highly debatable but in the end, ‘Pain and loss are inevitable and we should let go of trying to resist them. Happiness can not be worked for, earned nor achieved because, on Earth, the problem never ceases, they just improve. In all your gettings, get values, self honed values of which you use as merit to measure your success. Mark goes on to talk about talking responsibility whether it’s our fault or not, Savers VS Victims and the inevitable DEATH.
FAVOURITE LINES
Do something.
“The more we choose to accept responsibility in our lives, the more power we will exercise over our lives. Accepting responsibility for our problems is thus the first step to solving them.”
“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”
TOP LESSON
Stop comparing yourself to others, live your own life and be happy
